Houston Welcomes Regina Silveira and Paradise at IAH

Houston recently received a visit from internationally acclaimed Brazilian artist Regina Silveira to celebrate the completion of her latest public artwork, Paradise (Flight, Wind, Mix), in the recently expanded Terminal D at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). This monumental installation is part of a broader initiative to install 12 site-specific commissioned artworks throughout the redeveloped international terminal at IAH, which will continue to open in phases throughout 2025.

Situated at the gateway to the recently opened Terminal D expansion, Silveira’s Paradise (Flight, Wind, Mix) is a visual trilogy inspired by pollinators and other winged insects native to Texas. The ensemble unfolds through three related installations on the ceiling, floor, and wall. Paradise (Flight) features a suspended ceiling structure composed of four layers of digitally printed, laminated, and tempered transparent glass arranged in concentric rectangles with vertical progression. Paradise (Wind) employs terrazzo techniques on the floor below, mirroring the ceiling’s design to create an illusion of depth, simulating a fictional open sky where insects fly freely. Paradise (Mix) is a wall panel of digitally printed glass, showcasing another layer of winged insects, adding additional color and whimsy to the piece. Collectively, the installation provides a poetic experience, evoking themes of flight and open skies. The installation is near gate D1.

Regina Silveira arrived in Houston in celebration of the completion of this stunning artwork. Several private events were held throughout the city. This artwork was completed as part of a multi-million-dollar investment in public art, made possible by collaboration between Houston Airports, the Houston Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs (MOCA), and the Houston Arts Alliance (HAA).
