Hurricane Beryl Resources

In this page you will find various tips and resources to help you recover from Hurricane Beryl.

FEMA Individual Assistance Available

A federal declaration has been approved for individuals impacted by Hurricane Beryl, which occurred July 5-9, 2024.

Individuals in the following counties can now apply for Individual Assistance FEMA: Brazoria, Chambers, Galveston, Harris, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Orange, Polk, San Jacinto, Walker and Wharton counties. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.

If your county is not listed above, continue to complete the iSTAT damage survey. The declaration could be amended to include other counties at a later point.

Residents can begin the application process by visiting https://www.disasterassistance.gov/DAC-RI/location-search or calling 800-621-FEMA (3362), (oprima la opción 2 para un operador de habla hispana) or downloading the FEMA app. For additional information about FEMA’s disaster assistance resources and Individual Assistance program, visit www.disasterassistance.gov.

Our thoughts are with you and the many families impacted by Hurricane Beryl. We want to support you during this difficult time by sharing resource information, answering your questions, and amplifying your needs. Data and information are crucial in bringing vital resources to our region. In the coming weeks, the Houston Arts Alliance (HAA) will conduct an initial impact and damage assessment. This will enable us to provide targeted and direct assistance to those in need, and to advocate for and leverage additional resources.

HAA kindly requests that you complete two separate surveys: one directly to HAA, and the other to the Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM). HAA’s Hurricane Beryl Impact Survey focuses specifically on advocating for the arts. Our Disaster Services program offers expert guidance to the arts community and advocates for fair inclusion of the arts in emergency management. TDEM’s Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) helps state and local emergency management officials identify and better understand the damage suffered from Hurricane Beryl. Please submit one survey per impacted address.

Reporting damages to Emergency Management is voluntary and not a substitute for reporting damage to your insurance agency. It is not an application for FEMA assistance, nor does it guarantee disaster relief.

You might ask, why complete these surveys? Because disaster assistance is not automatic; our local governments need data and information to advocate effectively for FEMA and other disaster assistance. The information you provide, and that HAA collects, supports these crucial efforts.

Steps to Secure Assistance and Protect Yourself After Storm Damage

  • Ensure you take pictures of any storm damage. Videos work as well.

  • Document damages.  If FEMA Individual Assistance (IA) becomes available for Hurricane Beryl, documenting your damages will be essential for determining eligibility.

  • If you have insurance, contact your insurance company. While it is not necessary, it is good to do so before applying for FEMA assistance. FEMA will only consider damages beyond what your insurance plan covers.

  • The Home Cleanup Hotline has been opened to help survivors of Hurricane Beryl. We anticipate that most volunteer groups will work through Friday, July 19. 2024. Survivors needing assistance can call 979-217-3791.

  • The deadline to apply for FEMA assistance for the Texas Severe Storms, Straight-line Winds, Tornadoes, and Flooding (DR-4781-TX) from April 26 – June 5 has been extended to August 15, 2024.

  • Be cautious of scammers who may exploit the situation. Report all scams and fraud to the Texas Attorney General.
