Welcoming Two New Leaders to HAA!

Houston Arts Alliance (HAA) is pleased to name Sergio Selvera as the new Board Chair for the Houston Arts Alliance Board of Directors and Aubrey F. Burghardt as Director of Development!

Sergio Selvera is a Texas-based entertainment attorney representing clients in music, film, television, sports, digital media, live events, and branding. He earned his B.A. from The University of Texas at Austin, his J.D. from Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law, and studied International Sports Law at St. John’s University in New York.

Sergio served as Executive Producer on A&E’s The Chicano Squad, a nationally televised docuseries about a groundbreaking Latino police unit formed in 1970s Houston. His firm also served as legal counsel for Say A Little Prayer, a romantic comedy starring Latin pop star Luis Fonsi.

In addition to his legal and creative work, Sergio serves as Chair of the Houston Arts Alliance and is a former board member and Vice Chair of the East Downtown Redevelopment Authority. He lives in Houston with his wife and two young children and is passionate about supporting storytellers and building community through the arts.

A Houston-based arts leader, Aubrey F. Burghardt brings six years of experience in fundraising strategy, partnership building, and organizational growth within the Houston nonprofit arts sector. She values human connection and honors the vital role a creative community plays for every Houstonian.

Burghardt holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Anthropology and a Master of Arts in Arts Leadership from the University of Houston. Her career spans both fine art management and nonprofit advancement, and pays tribute to a deep commitment to artists, collectors, and cultural institutions. She is recognized for authentic leadership that strengthens relationships and advances sustainable growth. In 2024, she was selected as a fellow of New Leaders Council–Houston.

During her previous tenure at HAA, Burghardt served in various roles, advancing from part-time Development Coordinator to Manager of External Affairs, strengthening development operations and contributing to consecutive record-setting galas and spearheading HAA’s privately funded Disaster Emergency Relief efforts.

She most recently served as Development Director at Writers in the Schools (WITS), where she expanded partnerships and reinforced fundraising infrastructure. Returning to HAA, Burghardt will lead private fundraising across individual, corporate, foundation, and government partners and oversee donor engagement and special events, including the organization’s 20th Anniversary Gala on September 26.

“This is an exciting moment for HAA,” said Taylor Jackson, CEO. “With Sergio Selvera stepping into the role of Board Chair and Aubrey returning as Director of Development, we are strengthening both our governance and our fundraising leadership at a pivotal time. Sergio’s commitment to storytelling and community-building through the arts, combined with Aubrey’s strategic vision and authentic relationship-building, positions HAA for continued growth and deeper impact. Together, their leadership will help guide us as we build toward our 20th Anniversary and beyond.”
